Ukraine Accused of Breaking Easter Ceasefire Using US-Made HIMARS, Says Russian Diplomat
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
A senior Russian official has accused Ukraine of violating the temporary Easter truce declared by Moscow by launching strikes with U.S.-supplied HIMARS rocket systems. The accusation was made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Sunday, stating that Ukrainian forces targeted multiple areas despite the ceasefire announcement by President Vladimir Putin.
According to Zakharova, the alleged attacks occurred during the Orthodox Easter period and involved precision-guided munitions supplied by the United States.
The Ukrainian government has not publicly responded to the allegations. However, earlier in the day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Russia for what he described as continued shelling and drone attacks during the ceasefire window.
The United States has not commented on the alleged use of its weapons in the reported strikes. U.S. officials have previously emphasized that military aid to Ukraine is strictly for self-defense and maintaining territorial integrity.
International observers have urged both sides to respect truce agreements and ensure civilian protection during religious and humanitarian periods. Independent verification of the alleged HIMARS attacks has not yet been confirmed.
This development adds further strain to already tense relations between Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington, as the war continues to escalate despite calls for a negotiated resolution.
