At Least 28 Tourists Killed in Kashmir Resort Attack, Dozens Injured
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
A devastating terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir has left at least 28 tourists dead and over 35 injured, authorities confirmed late Tuesday. The gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists at a scenic resort near the town of Pahalgam, marking one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in the region in recent years.
According to senior police officials, four heavily armed militants targeted the visitors while they were gathered in Baisaran meadow, roughly five kilometers from Pahalgam. The attackers reportedly fired at close range, resulting in a high number of casualties.
“This is a terror attack on an unprecedented scale targeting civilians,” said a senior police officer, speaking under condition of anonymity. “We are in the process of identifying the deceased and securing the area.”
Most of the victims are believed to be Indian nationals on vacation in the popular tourist destination, which had seen a resurgence in visitors following a period of relative calm.
Rescue and Investigation Underway
Emergency response teams recovered 24 bodies at the scene, with two more victims succumbing to injuries en route to nearby hospitals. Dozens of others, many in critical condition, are being treated in Srinagar medical facilities.
Security forces have launched a large-scale manhunt across the area to track down the assailants, though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of Tuesday night.
The Indian government is expected to issue an official statement, and increased security measures are anticipated in the region following the attack.
