US Warns of Withdrawal from Ukraine Peace Talks If No Agreement Reached
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
United States Vice President JD Vance has issued a sharp warning that Washington may exit ongoing peace talks between Ukraine and Russia unless both sides accept a U.S.-backed proposal aimed at ending the conflict through a ceasefire along the current frontlines.
During an official visit to India, Vance outlined the proposal, which includes the possibility of territorial adjustments from both Ukraine and Russia to reach a resolution and halt the war.
“We’ve made a clear offer to both governments. It’s now up to them to agree—or the United States will walk away,” Vance stated.
Proposed Deal Calls for Ceasefire and Territorial Adjustments
According to Vance, the plan seeks to freeze the ongoing conflict near its present battle lines, with some minor territorial swaps. While no official confirmation has been given, reports indicate the proposal may also include a clause on recognizing Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, a contentious issue for Kyiv.
These remarks came as the United Kingdom hosted a high-level peace conference on Ukraine in London. The event, however, was overshadowed by the sudden withdrawal of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, highlighting growing tensions among Western allies.
Deal May Block NATO Membership for Ukraine
Another component of the peace framework reportedly includes blocking Ukraine’s entry into NATO, a condition Kyiv may accept reluctantly. Instead, a security coalition led by the UK and France, involving 30 countries, would provide future defense assurances—an alternative Russia also objects to.
Analysts believe Russia may be offering symbolic trade-offs—such as giving up control of areas it never held—in exchange for the U.S. formally acknowledging Crimea as Russian territory. Such a move would set a dangerous precedent for redrawing international borders by military force, observers warn.
