Palestinian Leaders Outraged Over Mahmoud Abbas’ Controversial Remarks
Palestinian leaders have expressed strong disapproval following controversial remarks made by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at a recent meeting of the Palestinian Central Council. His statements have ignited a wave of concern, with many accusing him of exacerbating internal divisions and undermining Palestinian national interests.
In an interview with Al-Quds Network, Member of the Palestinian National Assembly, Taysir Al-Ali, criticized Abbas for his comments, which he described as insulting to those who have lost faith in the Palestinian president. Al-Ali emphasized that Abbas’ remarks hinder national unity, as no Palestinian can align with individuals who accuse them of being “unpatriotic” and blame them for the suffering of the Palestinian people.
“Such words only serve to deepen divisions within the Palestinian cause. No one can unite with those who blame the Palestinian people for their own suffering, especially when the root cause is the occupation,” said Al-Ali.
Accusations of Supporting Extremist Views
Al-Ali further pointed out that Abbas’ statements appear to align with the rhetoric of extremist Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who recently blamed Palestinian resistance movements for the destruction of Gaza. Smotrich had called for disarming Palestinian resistance groups and demanding the return of Israeli prisoners.
“Abbas’ words seem to support Smotrich’s extreme position on Gaza, which could have devastating consequences for the Palestinian struggle for freedom,” Al-Ali added.
The remarks have deepened the political rift within Palestinian factions, with many viewing them as a blow to the efforts of unity and resistance against Israeli occupation.
