Ukraine Set to Sign Major Critical Minerals Deal with United States Within 24 Hours
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Ukraine is prepared to finalize a landmark agreement with the United States on the extraction and supply of critical minerals within the next 24 hours, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed on Tuesday.
The high-level deal aims to strengthen Ukraine’s role as a key global supplier of strategic minerals vital for clean energy technologies, defense production, and advanced electronics. Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv, Shmyhal stated, “All technical and legal aspects have been completed. We are ready to sign the agreement at any moment.”
The expected agreement will focus on minerals such as lithium, titanium, rare earth elements, and other materials essential to U.S. national security and industrial supply chains. It is also expected to attract American investment into Ukraine’s mining and processing infrastructure, providing a much-needed economic boost amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
U.S. officials have previously expressed strong interest in securing stable, non-Chinese sources of critical minerals. A senior official from the U.S. Department of Energy said earlier this month that Ukraine “holds significant potential” to become a reliable long-term partner in mineral cooperation.
The agreement is part of a broader strategic initiative between Kyiv and Washington to deepen economic ties while countering global supply chain vulnerabilities. If signed as expected, it will mark one of the most significant energy and industrial partnerships between the two nations since the start of the full-scale war in 2022.
The deal is also aligned with the Biden administration’s agenda to accelerate clean energy transition and reduce reliance on adversarial sources of raw materials.
Further details of the agreement, including investment volumes, extraction sites, and timelines, are expected to be made public following the official signing.
