Planned nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran have been officially postponed, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi confirmed on Thursday.

In a statement on social media, al-Busaidi said the meeting originally set for May 3 will be rescheduled due to logistical reasons. He added that new dates will be announced once both parties reach a mutual agreement.

Foreign Ministry of Iran’s also confirmed the delay, stating that the talks were postponed at the request of Oman. Iranian officials reiterated their commitment to reaching a fair and lasting deal.

The upcoming round, which would have been the fourth, follows three previous rounds of indirect negotiations. Two were held in Oman’s capital, Muscat, and one was tentatively planned for Rome.

A US official familiar with the matter clarified that Washington had not formally confirmed participation in the next session but expects talks to resume in the near future.

The discussions are aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear enrichment activities in exchange for relief from US economic sanctions, which have severely impacted Iran’s economy since the US withdrew from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In an official post, Hegseth stated, “We see your lethal support to the Houthis. You were warned. Consequences will come at a time of our choosing.”

The delay in nuclear talks also comes at a time of heightened conflict in the region, including the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Despite the postponement, both Tehran and Washington have expressed readiness to continue dialogue. Diplomatic sources indicate that efforts are ongoing to secure a new date and location for the next round of discussions.
