Pakistan Ready to Respond Decisively to Any Aggression, Says DG ISPR
Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, affirmed on Saturday that Pakistan seeks peace in the region but remains fully prepared to deliver a forceful response if any aggression is imposed upon it.
During a high-level in-camera session held at the headquarters of the state broadcaster, DG ISPR and Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar briefed senior leaders of political parties on the prevailing security environment and escalating tensions with India. The meeting focused on national defense readiness and ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.
Political representatives attending the session included Khurram Dastgir and Abid Sher Ali from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pervez Khattak, Advisor on Interior Affairs, as well as senior leaders from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) including Shazia Marri, Saeed Ghani, Sharjeel Memon, and Nasir Hussain Shah. MQM leaders Dr. Farooq Sattar and Faisal Sabzwari were also present. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), however, opted not to participate.
Sources indicated that DG ISPR provided a comprehensive overview of the Pakistan Army’s state of preparedness amid rising tensions with India. The information minister briefed participants on Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives in response to India’s provocative actions.
The development comes after India blamed Pakistan for a deadly attack in Pahalgam, Indian-occupied Kashmir, on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed. Following the incident, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave. In response, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian flights and called for an international investigation into the incident — a proposal India has yet to acknowledge.
Countries including China, Türkiye, and Switzerland have backed Pakistan’s call for a fair inquiry and have expressed concern over India’s hostile stance. Türkiye has joined China in publicly supporting Pakistan and condemning India’s inflammatory rhetoric.
DG ISPR reiterated that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be misinterpreted as weakness and made it clear that the nation’s armed forces are ready to defend the country’s sovereignty under any circumstance.
