Israel carried out airstrikes on Yemen’s strategic port city of Hodeidah in direct response to a missile attack by Houthi rebels on Ben Gurion International Airport. The Israeli Air Force, in coordination with US forces, used precision-guided munitions to strike multiple military installations controlled by the Houthi group. The attack came hours after a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi group hit near Terminal 3 of Israel’s busiest airport, injuring at least eight people and temporarily halting flight operations. The missile breach marked a significant escalation, bypassing Israel’s sophisticated air defense system and raising security alert across the country.

Israeli officials have called the missile attack a dangerous provocation by Iran-backed militias and warned that further aggression would be met with decisive military action. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack as part of a broader Iranian effort to destabilize the region through proxy forces and vowed to defend Israeli sovereignty with all its might. Houthi rebels, who control large parts of northern Yemen, have stepped up cross-border attacks in recent months, citing their support for Palestinians in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The strikes on Hodeidah represent Israel’s most significant military operation in Yemen to date and highlight the expanding scope of the conflict in the Middle East. With tensions rising and multiple fronts active, world leaders are urging restraint to prevent a wider regional war.
