Pakistan Backs China on Arunachal Pradesh, Warns India of Firm Military Response
Pakistan has expressed strong support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity regarding Arunachal Pradesh, as confirmed by the Foreign Office during its weekly press briefing.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that Pakistan backs China’s position on Arunachal Pradesh, affirming that China’s recent reports on the matter have been reviewed and supported by Islamabad.
The spokesperson also dismissed Indian media claims about radioactive fallout following border clashes as baseless, emphasizing that Pakistan and India’s Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) have remained in periodic contact since May 10 to maintain the ceasefire.
Tensions between the two countries escalated recently due to what Pakistan termed as Indian aggression, which disrupted regional peace. In response, Pakistan launched Operation Banyan Marsous, targeting Indian military installations. Six Indian fighter jets were reportedly downed during the operation.
Pakistan asserted its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. The spokesperson underlined that the retaliatory action was a justified response to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Pakistan welcomed the ceasefire agreement and urged India to uphold its commitments. Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan appreciated the efforts of friendly nations that facilitated the de-escalation. She warned that any future aggression from India would be met with a resolute and strong response.
On a question about the Afghan Defence Minister’s alleged secret visit to India, the spokesperson refrained from commenting directly but emphasized that all nations have the sovereign right to pursue their foreign policy independently. Pakistan recognizes both India and Afghanistan as sovereign states and expects their bilateral ties not to be used against Pakistani interests.
The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s preparedness to face any security threats, stating that the armed forces remain alert and fully capable of responding to challenges. Pakistan reiterated its commitment to peaceful resolution of conflicts and emphasized that it is not afraid to engage in dialogue on counter-terrorism, given its own long-standing experience as a victim of terrorism.
