Israel Confirms Martyrdom of Hamas Gaza Chief Mohammed Sinwar in Targeted Operation
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the Martyrdom of Mohammed Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza and brother of former leader Yahya Sinwar, during an address to the Knesset on Wednesday. The high-profile assassination marks a significant development in Israel’s ongoing campaign to dismantle the militant organization.
Mohammed Sinwar assumed leadership in Gaza after his brother Yahya was killed in southern Gaza by Israeli forces in 2024. Yahya Sinwar, one of the masterminds behind the October 7, 2023, attacks that triggered the war, was previously considered the top figure in Hamas’ leadership hierarchy.

“We eliminated Mohammad Deif, Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and now Mohammed Sinwar,” Netanyahu declared before lawmakers, claiming the operation represents a turning point in the 600-day conflict.
The strikes are part of Israel’s intensified campaign following renewed calls to dismantle Hamas leadership and secure the release of 58 remaining hostages taken during the October 7 assault that left 1,200 Israelis dead.
While Hamas has not officially confirmed Mohammed Sinwar’s Martyrdom, reports suggest that Izz al-Din Haddad, commander of Hamas’ northern Gaza armed wing, is the likely successor. The leadership shift could impact Hamas’ internal military decision-making and its political council’s ability to engage in future ceasefire negotiations.
Since the war began, over 54,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children, have reportedly been killed, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-administered Gaza Strip. The humanitarian situation has deteriorated further amid ongoing hostilities and a three-month Israeli blockade that was partially lifted earlier this week.
