US Envoy Hints at New Gaza Ceasefire Terms as Hamas Claims ‘General Framework’ Deal
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff expressed cautious optimism on Wednesday over the potential for a new temporary ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza, signaling that the Biden administration is preparing to issue updated negotiation terms.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Witkoff revealed that a fresh term sheet is expected to be finalized and issued later in the day. “We’re on the verge of releasing a new framework that could lead to a temporary ceasefire and a long-term peaceful resolution,” he said, adding, “I have very good feelings about this.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Hamas declared that it had agreed to a “general framework” with the U.S. envoy. According to the group, the framework would secure:
- A permanent ceasefire in Gaza
- Full withdrawal of Israeli troops
- Unhindered humanitarian aid delivery
- 10 living Israeli hostages release and remains of others
- Exchange for a “guaranteed” number of Palestinian prisoners
However, an unnamed Israeli official quickly refuted the Hamas statement, calling it “psychological warfare” and “propaganda.” The official emphasized that both Israel and the U.S. reject Hamas’s current terms, asserting that the group is still resisting elements of the previously agreed-upon Witkoff framework.ng more dire by the day.
Witkoff is expected to brief the media and regional leaders once the new terms are formally presented.
