GAZA STRIP — At least 41 Palestinians were killed on Wednesday amid Israeli gunfire and airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, with most casualties occurring near aid distribution points run by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), health officials confirmed.
According to medical personnel at Al-Shifa and Al-Quds hospitals, 25 civilians were fatally shot while approaching a GHF aid center near the former Israeli settlement of Netzarim. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated they fired warning shots at individuals perceived as threats in what they described as an “active combat zone.”
Later that day, six more were reported dead near a separate GHF site in Rafah, while 10 others were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis, raising Wednesday’s death toll to 41.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health revealed that since the GHF began operating two weeks ago following a three-month blockade, at least 163 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,000 injured while trying to access food assistance.
The United Nations condemned the repeated attacks, warning that Gaza remains on the brink of famine and that food insecurity is deepening across the enclave. Despite working with Israeli forces, GHF operations have drawn criticism for allegedly violating humanitarian standards by employing private contractors with Israeli military protection.
