HAIFA — Israeli police have detained multiple individuals for attempting to livestream a missile attack on the port of Haifa, amid ongoing escalations with Iran. The suspects were caught setting up cameras on a hotel balcony facing the targeted area, officials said.
According to a spokesperson for the Israel Police, officers from the Haifa station responded swiftly after receiving intelligence about suspicious activity involving video equipment directed at the port. Authorities believe the individuals planned to broadcast live footage of missile impacts.
“They were taken in for questioning, and all equipment was seized,” police confirmed, adding that the case has been referred to the Shin Bet security agency for further investigation.
The detentions come just hours after a deadly missile strike on the Bazan oil refinery in Haifa killed three people and caused severe infrastructure damage. The refinery, a critical part of Israel’s energy network, was shut down as a result of the impact.
Iran had previously identified the Haifa port as a major strategic target, and Monday night’s missile barrage underscores the seriousness of the threat.
Under Israeli defense regulations, live broadcasts of missile strikes, interceptions, or impacts are strictly prohibited. The IDF censor enforces these rules to prevent sensitive security information from being leaked or exploited during active hostilities.
Authorities have warned that any individuals found violating media restrictions during national emergencies may face legal action.
