Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on Saturday, reaffirming the two nations’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and addressing urgent regional challenges, including the escalating conflict in Gaza.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM). Dar was accompanied by Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir. He conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and emphasized the strategic significance of Pakistan’s relationship with Türkiye, rooted in deep historical, religious, and cultural bonds.
Both leaders discussed a range of bilateral and regional matters and pledged to further expand and diversify cooperation in political, economic, and defense sectors.
In a unified stance, Dar and Erdogan strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing military assault on Gaza, terming it a flagrant violation of international law. They reiterated support for Iran’s sovereignty and right to self-defense under the UN Charter, while stressing the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the volatile situation in the Middle East.
The two leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the importance of ensuring unhindered humanitarian access to the Palestinian population trapped under siege.
During the meeting, Deputy PM Dar congratulated President Erdogan on receiving a prestigious award from the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) in recognition of his leadership and Türkiye’s successful hosting of the OIC CFM session.
The dialogue reaffirmed the shared commitment of Pakistan and Türkiye to promoting peace, stability, and multilateral cooperation across the Muslim world.
