TEHRAN — Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization has strongly condemned the United States for launching airstrikes on three of its key nuclear facilities, vowing that the country’s peaceful nuclear development will not be derailed by military aggression.
According to the state-affiliated IRNA news agency, the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan sites were hit in the early hours of Sunday in what Iranian officials described as a “savage assault.” The strikes followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement that the United States had joined Israel in targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure amid rising regional tensions.
Iran’s atomic agency characterized the attack as a “blatant violation of international law,” specifically citing the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), to which Iran is a signatory. The organization also criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), accusing it of “complicity” by allegedly failing to prevent the attacks or condemn them.
The statement called on the international community to denounce the US action and support Iran’s sovereign right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Despite the destruction caused, Iranian authorities maintained that the country’s nuclear ambitions remain unaffected. “We will never allow the progress of this national industry to be halted,” the Atomic Energy Organization said, framing the program as vital to Iran’s scientific, medical, and energy needs.
Officials have not released a full assessment of the damage but reiterated that critical components had been relocated or secured prior to the strikes.
The incident marks a sharp escalation in the Middle East crisis, with fears growing over a broader confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. International observers and diplomatic channels are calling for restraint to avoid further destabilization of the region.
Meanwhile, Iran has placed its military on heightened alert and warned of further consequences if its sovereignty continues to be violated.
