TEHRAN — Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a forceful declaration on Sunday, asserting that Iran will never bow to foreign aggression. The statement came hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on the U.S. al-Udeid air base in Qatar, in response to recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.
In a post on the social media platform X, Khamenei stated:
“We have not attacked anyone, and we absolutely do not accept anyone’s aggression, nor will we submit to anyone’s aggression. This is the logic of the Iranian nation.”
The strike on the strategically significant al-Udeid base marked a major escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Iran and the United States, following attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) labeled the missile barrage as part of Operation Basharat al-Fath (Good News of Victory), which also included strikes on U.S. military targets in Iraq and Syria. The coordinated operation underscores Tehran’s intent to respond forcefully to perceived violations of its sovereignty.
Iranian media reported that six ballistic missiles were launched toward American military installations in Doha, triggering explosions that were heard across the Qatari capital. While the al-Udeid air base had been partially evacuated in anticipation of hostilities, regional tension remains high.
In response to the Iranian strikes, Qatar closed its airspace and suspended operations at several schools. Neighboring countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain have raised their threat alert levels. The Pentagon confirmed emergency meetings were underway at the White House Situation Room, with President Donald Trump and senior military officials monitoring developments closely.
Meanwhile, Ayatollah Khamenei’s message appears aimed at rallying domestic and regional support while sending a warning to Western powers. Iranian officials maintain that their actions are grounded in the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
