
Baghdad and Islamabad to Become Sister Cities, Strengthening Iraq-Pakistan Ties

Islamabad – Baghdad and Islamabad have agreed to establish a sister city partnership, aimed at fostering collaboration in urban development, cultural exchange, tourism, and infrastructure.
The initiative was formalized during a high-level meeting between Abdul Qadir Suleiman Al-Himeiri, Head of Mission at the Iraqi Embassy in Pakistan, and Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, held at CDA Headquarters.
The two officials discussed plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to officially launch the Baghdad-Islamabad sister city program. The agreement will provide a framework for institutional collaboration, sustainable urban planning, and joint city beautification projects.

Chairman Randhawa highlighted Islamabad’s ongoing transformation under the leadership of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, particularly the modernization of the Diplomatic Enclave. He noted that the project aims to create a secure, world-class zone designed by renowned architects and landscape experts.
Ambassador Al-Himeiri praised the CDA’s vision, expressing admiration for the city’s expanding urban development and environmental improvements.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to deepening ties between the two capitals. The planned partnership aims to serve as a model of city-level diplomacy, promoting cultural understanding, sustainable development, and shared progress.
