Netanyahu, Trump Say They’re Near Deal to Relocate Gazans to Third Countries

Washington, D.C.: During a high-profile meeting at the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump announced that they are “very close” to securing agreements with several countries willing to accept displaced Palestinians from Gaza, as part of an evolving post-war regional strategy.

The joint appearance, held after a closed-door diplomatic session, comes as ceasefire talks with Hamas remain stalled and international scrutiny intensifies over Israel’s military operations and humanitarian policies in the besieged enclave.

Both Netanyahu and Trump emphasized that the proposed plan involves “voluntary humanitarian relocation,” not forced expulsion. However, legal experts, aid organizations, and human rights observers have expressed deep concern, warning that such proposals may violate international humanitarian law and constitute a form of population transfer.

“We are working with our allies and regional partners to give Palestinians a chance at a safer, more prosperous life outside of Gaza,” said Trump, adding that several “friendly nations” are “actively engaged in constructive discussions.”

Netanyahu echoed the sentiment, saying:

“We are nearing agreements that will allow willing Gazans to resettle in peaceful environments with international support. This is not about exile — it’s about opportunity and dignity.”

While the two leaders declined to name specific nations, sources familiar with the negotiations suggest that several African, Latin American, and Southeast Asian countries are being considered as potential relocation destinations for tens of thousands of displaced Gazans.

The UN and EU, however, have reiterated opposition to any plan that involves removing Palestinians from their homeland, labeling it a “red line” in humanitarian law.
