GAZA / JERUSALEM — At least 57 Palestinians were killed in Gaza within 24 hours, as Israel intensified its airstrikes and withdrew its delegation from ceasefire negotiations in Doha, marking a grim new chapter in the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.
Many of the victims were reportedly civilians seeking humanitarian aid near the Zikim crossing, where crowds have routinely gathered in desperation for food. According to local health officials, several people were shot dead while waiting for aid trucks, underscoring the severity of the food crisis brought on by the prolonged Israeli blockade.
Palestinian authorities reported that 124 people, including 84 children, have now died from starvation since the start of the conflict. Three infants succumbed to malnutrition in the last 24 hours alone, highlighting the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the besieged enclave.
Beyond starvation, Israeli airstrikes continue to claim lives. On Saturday, four Palestinians were killed when a residential building was bombed in Gaza City, part of a broader escalation in military operations across the Strip.
The ceasefire talks in Doha have collapsed after both the United States and Israel withdrew their negotiating teams on Thursday. In a statement, U.S. President Donald Trump blamed Hamas for the failure of the talks, alleging the group was not interested in reaching a peaceful agreement.
With diplomatic efforts faltering and humanitarian conditions worsening, international observers warn that Gaza faces an impending catastrophe. Humanitarian organizations are urgently calling for renewed negotiations, the lifting of blockades, and immediate delivery of aid to prevent further loss of life.
