
Pakistan, China Reaffirm Strategic Partnership Ahead of Crucial CPEC Talks

ISLAMABAD – In a high-level diplomatic meeting ahead of the next Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) session, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong engaged in detailed discussions to further enhance Pakistan-China strategic cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.
Also present at the meeting were Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and senior government officials from both countries.
The discussion centered around evaluating the progress of existing CPEC projects and setting the agenda for the upcoming JCC meeting, which will steer the future direction of bilateral cooperation.
During the discussion, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the successful completion of CPEC Phase-I, which focused on major infrastructure and energy projects. He highlighted that CPEC Phase-II now aims to deepen cooperation in
- Industrial development
- Advanced agricultural collaboration
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Socio-economic upliftment
He emphasized that connecting CPEC to Central Asia would significantly boost regional trade and economic integration
Minister Iqbal reiterated the government’s strong commitment to:
- Accelerate development of Gwadar Port
- Establish and operationalize Special Economic Zones (SEZs)
- Fully utilize Gwadar’s trade and logistics potential
- Leverage mineral wealth in Balochistan and surrounding regions
He emphasized that modern infrastructure development would unlock significant opportunities in mineral exploration, bolstering national growth.
The minister praised the growing agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China. He noted that Pakistani graduates trained in China are expected to contribute significantly to climate resilience and modernized farming back home, aligning with Pakistan’s evolving climate action goals.
Iqbal emphasized the national importance of establishing the Pakistan Space Centre, a flagship initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s technological and scientific self-sufficiency. He acknowledged China’s pivotal role in the timely and strategic execution of this project.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s development agenda. He assured that bilateral collaboration would continue to deepen, especially in sectors such as:
- Infrastructure
- Energy
- Technology
- Agriculture
- Space exploration
“China and Pakistan will continue to move forward hand in hand, advancing CPEC and delivering meaningful progress for both nations,” the ambassador stated.
