Islamabad — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday for a two-day official visit, marking his first trip to Pakistan since assuming office. The visit is expected to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between the two neighboring countries.
According to a statement released by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, senior Iranian ministers, and key government advisers.
President Pezeshkian will hold high-level meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with a series of delegation-level talks planned. The discussions are expected to focus on regional developments, enhancing bilateral trade, border security, and provincial-level cooperation.
Trade between Iran and Pakistan currently stands at around $3 billion, and both sides are looking to increase economic engagement through energy projects, infrastructure development, and cross-border markets.
Senior Iranian adviser Mehdi Sanai earlier described the Iran-Pakistan relationship as “deep and multidimensional,” noting that the visit would include engagements with Pakistani business leaders, cultural figures, and civil society representatives.
The Iranian delegation is also expected to explore investment opportunities and promote people-to-people exchanges, particularly in sectors such as technology, education, healthcare, and transportation.
This visit was initially scheduled for late July but was postponed due to diplomatic calendar changes. With the visit now back on track, President Pezeshkian becomes the second Iranian head of state to visit Pakistan in just two years.
His predecessor, Ebrahim Raisi, made a high-profile three-day visit in April 2024, just weeks before his tragic death in a helicopter crash in Iran.
Earlier this year, in May 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Tehran as part of a strategic outreach initiative. That trip served to reinforce Pakistan’s gratitude for Iran’s diplomatic support during the recent India–Pakistan military conflict and paved the way for enhanced cooperation.
Observers see President Pezeshkian’s upcoming visit as a diplomatic milestone, offering both nations a renewed opportunity to expand economic ties, improve regional connectivity, and align on shared security concerns in South Asia and the Middle East.
