Peshawar / Muzaffarabad / Bajaur / Gilgit / Mansehra / Buner — Torrential rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods have caused widespread devastation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and parts of Kashmir, leaving at least 198 people dead, dozens injured, and hundreds missing, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The relentless downpours have triggered landslides, house collapses, and infrastructure damage in multiple districts, with rescue teams racing against time to save survivors.

The PDMA confirmed that 198 fatalities occurred across districts including Battagram, Bajaur, Mansehra, Swat, Buner, Torghar, and Shangla. The dead include 163 men, 14 women, and 12 children, while 21 people sustained injuries.

Severe damage was reported to 71 homes — 7 completely destroyed and 64 partially damaged — along with three schools in the affected districts.

PDMA officials noted that Bajaur and Battagram are the worst-hit areas, where rescue operations remain in full swing despite challenging weather conditions.

In Buner district, flash floods have devastated Gokand, Gadizai, and Pir Baba areas. 91 people have been confirmed dead — 88 men, 2 women, and 1 child.

Deputy Commissioner Kashif Qayyum reported that more than 100 shops were destroyed in Pir Baba Bazaar. The district has been placed under emergency status, with 40 bodies in THQ Pir Baba Hospital and 12 in DHQ Dagar.

A powerful cloudburst in Jabrarai village, Tehsil Salarzai of Bajaur triggered flash floods and lightning strikes, killing 75 people. Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali confirmed that 18 bodies have been recovered, while three people remain missing and three others are injured.

Rescue 1122 dispatched disaster, medical, and diving teams to assist in recovery and relief efforts.

The PDMA had issued pre-emptive weather alerts to district administrations, urging precautionary measures. Following the catastrophe, authorities have instructed all relevant agencies to expedite relief work, restore damaged roads, and reconnect isolated tourist destinations.

Rescue operations are ongoing, but officials warn that continued rainfall could further complicate relief efforts.
