Riyadh — Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has said that the dream of establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state is closer to reality than ever before, as nearly 80 percent of the world’s countries are prepared to extend official recognition.
In a statement issued from Riyadh, Ashrafi credited the diplomatic efforts of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in rallying international support for Palestine. He noted that countries including Britain, Australia, New Zealand, France, and other European states are now siding with the Palestinians against what he described as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s policies of aggression and terrorism.
“The Palestinians have endured countless sacrifices. Now is the time they achieve their rightful destination in the light of their struggle and perseverance,” Ashrafi emphasized.
Tahir Ashrafi expressed confidence that September 2025 would bring major positive developments for the Palestinian cause, with announcements expected regarding recognition of Palestinian statehood by several influential nations. He described this as not only a victory for the Palestinian people but also a moment of hope for the broader Muslim world.
The PUC chairman Tahir Ashrafi highlighted the strong alignment between the leadership of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, pointing to the unified stance of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and all major religious and political parties of Pakistan.
“We stood with the Palestinian people yesterday, we stand with them today, and we will continue to stand by them until they achieve freedom and sovereignty,” Ashrafi declared.
He further prayed for both the Palestinian and Kashmiri peoples, urging an end to oppression and calling for their right to self-determination to be recognized by the international community.
