Islamabad — The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has sounded an emergency flood warning, urging immediate evacuation of residents living near the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, where extraordinary flood waves are threatening densely populated low-lying areas.
According to the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC):
- Chenab River: An extraordinary flood wave of 690,000 cusecs is currently passing through Marala Headworks, with further rise expected.
- Ravi River: A high flood of 170,000 cusecs is flowing at Jassar, which may surge to 250,000 cusecs by morning, posing risks to low-lying areas such as Shahdara, Park View, and Motorway-II.
- Sutlej River: At Ganda Singh Wala, the river is experiencing an exceptionally high flood wave of 245,000 cusecs, with additional increases anticipated.
The NDMA has directed vulnerable communities along riverbanks and floodplains to relocate without delay to safer areas. Citizens have been advised to:
- Follow local administration and rescue teams’ instructions.
- Avoid unnecessary travel to flood-affected regions.
- Keep emergency kits with essential food, water, medicines, and documents.
- Use the NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app for real-time updates.
Rescue agencies, including PDMA, Rescue 1122, Civil Defense, and Police, are on 24-hour emergency response, monitoring the flood situation and assisting with evacuations.
“Public cooperation is crucial to prevent loss of life. Citizens in at-risk areas must evacuate immediately,” NDMA officials warned.
