Islamabad — Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has announced that China and Pakistan will enhance cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), reaffirming their shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and global development under President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI).
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Ambassador Jiang reviewed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, the outcomes of the SCO Tianjin Summit, and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The envoy said the SCO Tianjin Summit concluded the “China Year” of the organization, bringing together over 20 heads of state and government, including PM Shehbaz Sharif, and 10 leaders of international organizations, expanding the group’s membership to 27 countries.
Key achievements included the adoption of a 10-year development roadmap, the creation of four new security centers, the launch of six cooperation platforms, and plans for an SCO Development Bank.
Ambassador Jiang highlighted President Xi’s pledges at the summit:
- 100 small-scale livelihood projects across member states.
- 2 billion yuan in aid this year.
- 10 billion yuan in loans over three years via the SCO Inter bank Consortium.
- 10,000 training opportunities over the next five years.
“These measures reflect China’s responsibility in advancing peace, progress, and human development,” Jiang noted.
Jiang commended Pakistan’s strong engagement, saying both President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation and integration. PM Shehbaz described the SCO as a platform that best represents Islamabad’s vision for peace and prosperity and reaffirmed that Pakistan will always stand shoulder-to-shoulder with China.
The envoy underscored the significance of the Global Governance Initiative, which emphasizes sovereign equality, international law, multilateral-ism, people-centered development, and action-oriented cooperation.
He said Pakistan has expressed full support, with PM Shehbaz calling the initiative a “historic step toward stronger multilateral-ism and global stability.”
Marking the 80th anniversary of WWII victories, Jiang stressed the importance of remembering sacrifices for peace. “Over 35 million Chinese lives were lost in defense of human civilization. Today, just as nations once united against fascism, the world must unite against hegemonic practices and work for a brighter future,” he said.
“China’s modernization is rooted in peaceful development. Alongside Pakistan, we remain committed to fairness, justice, and global progress,” Jiang concluded.
