Trump Administration Introduces $1M ‘Golden Visa’ Program

Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a dramatic increase in H-1B visa fees, raising the sponsorship cost for companies to $100,000 per worker. The move, Trump argued, will help safeguard American jobs while ensuring that only the most skilled foreign professionals are brought into the country.

In addition to the H-1B overhaul, Trump introduced a new $1 million “Golden Visa” program, granting wealthy investors a fast-track pathway to U.S. residency.

Calling the initiative “a fantastic thing,” Trump said the funds generated from visa fees would be used to reduce taxes and national debt. He emphasized that the change is designed to stop the abuse of the H-1B program and limit its use to cases where foreign talent is truly indispensable.

Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, backed Trump’s announcement, saying the visa program had often been exploited by corporations to replace American workers with cheaper foreign labor.

“All of the big companies are on board,” Lutnick noted, highlighting corporate support for the policy.

The decision is expected to have a major impact on U.S. tech companies and outsourcing firms, many of which rely heavily on foreign talent under the H-1B program. Critics warn the higher costs could discourage innovation and limit access to skilled workers, while supporters argue it will prioritize American employees.
