Eilat, Israel — At least 20 people were injured after a Houthi drone strike targeted the southern Israeli city of Eilat, according to emergency responders. The attack marks a fresh escalation in the regional conflict, with Israel’s Red Sea port city once again under fire.
The Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service confirmed that two men in their 60s are in serious condition, one person sustained moderate injuries, and 17 others suffered light wounds. Most of the casualties were caused by flying shrapnel from the drone’s impact.
All injured individuals were transferred to a local hospital in Eilat for urgent medical treatment, MDA reported.
The Iran-backed Houthi movement, based in Yemen, has repeatedly launched drone and missile attacks toward Israel since the Gaza war began, targeting both military and civilian areas. While Israel’s defense systems intercept most projectiles, some manage to penetrate, causing injuries and property damage.
Eilat, a key strategic and tourist hub on the Red Sea, has been a frequent target due to its location near shipping lanes and its symbolic value.
The Israeli military has not yet issued a detailed statement on the latest strike but is expected to respond. Previous Houthi attacks on Israel have prompted retaliatory airstrikes and heightened military readiness across the region.
The attack comes as tensions remain high, with Israel engaged in its ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza and facing threats from multiple fronts, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis.
