Hamas has announced its readiness to accept President Joe Biden’s ceasefire proposal without imposing any new conditions. The statement came after meetings held in Doha with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel.
The discussions, led by Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya, focused on the Palestinian issue and the situation in Gaza. Hamas expressed support for ongoing mediation efforts and welcomed proposals for a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, humanitarian aid, prisoner exchanges, and reconstruction initiatives.
Hamas confirmed its willingness to implement the ceasefire plan outlined by President Biden in May, reaffirming its acceptance of the terms as they stand. The group rejected any external plans for post-conflict Gaza administration, asserting that such matters should be determined by a unified Palestinian stance.
Additionally, Hamas endorsed the idea of convening comprehensive national talks with all Palestinian factions to address the current challenges and develop a cohesive national strategy.
President Biden’s plan, announced in late May, includes a comprehensive ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza’s populated areas, and prisoner releases. Indirect negotiations, supported by Egypt and Qatar and backed by the U.S., have been ongoing to finalize a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas.
