Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has responded sharply to the recent comments made by Governor Punjab, stating that the Governor’s primary role is to endorse the actions and decisions of the Punjab Assembly and the Cabinet. According to Bukhari, the Governor does not possess the authority to reject Cabinet decisions and should refrain from playing an opposition role, instead maintaining the office’s constitutional limits.
Bukhari highlighted that Governor Punjab, having served as a former federal minister, should be well aware of the importance of Cabinet decisions. She elaborated that the process for appointing Vice Chancellors in the province’s universities was conducted through a selection committee, which had been approved by the Cabinet. The committee interviewed all candidates and proposed names based on merit, seniority, and experience.
In a pointed remark, Bukhari added that there is already a political party, referring to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), dedicated to political point-scoring, implying that such tactics are not the Governor’s responsibility.
