In a significant policy shift, Germany has paused the approval of arms exports to Israel in light of ongoing legal cases that claim these exports breach international humanitarian law.
This year, Germany has drastically reduced its military supply to Israel, authorizing only €14.5 million worth of arms between January and August. This figure stands in stark contrast to the €326.5 million worth of arms approved in 2023.
Officials in Berlin emphasize that this decision should not be interpreted as a boycott against Israel. Furthermore, reports indicate that several other European nations are also reconsidering their arms trade with Israel due to similar legal and ethical concerns.
