In a significant development, Indian political leader Raj Thackeray has threatened to obstruct the release of the much-anticipated Pakistani film “The Legend of Maula Jatt” in Maharashtra. The film, featuring popular actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is poised to be the first Pakistani movie released in India since the lifting of restrictions on Pakistani artists.
Thackeray expressed strong opposition to the film’s screening, stating that it should not only be barred from Maharashtra but from any other Indian state as well. His comments come amid reports suggesting that the film would initially be released in Mumbai.
While acknowledging the universality of art, Thackeray insisted that the situation with Pakistan is different, emphasizing that the government should prevent the film’s exhibition throughout the country.
“The Legend of Maula Jatt” is scheduled to premiere in India on October 2, 2024, amid ongoing tensions regarding the presence of Pakistani artists in the Indian entertainment industry.
