Lt. General Muhammad Asim Malik has been named the new Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), with his appointment confirmed to commence on September 30, according to official statements.
Lt. Gen. Malik, currently serving as the Adjutant General at the General Headquarters (GHQ), brings extensive experience and a commendable track record to his new role. He has previously led an infantry division in Balochistan and an infantry brigade in Waziristan, both critical areas in Pakistan’s security landscape.
A recipient of the prestigious Sword of Honour during his military training, Lt. Gen. Malik has also excelled in academic and leadership roles. His academic achievements include graduating from Fort Leavenworth, USA, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK, institutions renowned for producing strategic military leaders.
Hailing from a prominent military family, Lt. Gen. Malik follows in the footsteps of his father, the late Lt. Gen. Ghulam Muhammad, who served as the Corps Commander of Rawalpindi and was widely respected within the armed forces.
His extensive field experience and strategic insight are expected to play a vital role in addressing evolving regional and global challenges.
