Pakistan, Iraq Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Call for Gaza Ceasefire at UNGA

Pakistan and Iraq have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia’ Al Sudani. The talks took place on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two leaders discussed the potential for enhanced collaboration, particularly in areas of mutual benefit. Prime Minister Sharif commended the historic and cultural ties between the two nations and expressed appreciation for Iraq’s facilitation of Pakistani pilgrims.

During the meeting, both prime ministers shared concerns over the escalating violence in Gaza, condemning the Israeli military actions and the resulting humanitarian disaster. Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s call for an immediate ceasefire and stressed the importance of holding Israel accountable for its actions.

The leaders resolved to strengthen international efforts at the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to ensure an immediate ceasefire and facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
