Sri Lanka Dominates New Zealand in Second Test, Clinches Series 2-0

Sri Lanka continued its impressive form by defeating New Zealand by an innings and 154 runs in the second Test match played in Galle. This victory secures the series for Sri Lanka with a clean sweep of 2-0.

After being forced to follow on, New Zealand struggled in their second innings, finishing with 360 runs. Sri Lanka’s Nishan Peiris was the standout bowler, claiming six wickets, while Prabath Jayasuriya and Dhananjaya de Silva contributed with three and one wicket, respectively.

Glenn Phillips was the top performer for New Zealand, scoring 78 runs. He was supported by Mitchell Santner (67 runs), Devon Conway (61 runs), and Tom Blundell (60 runs), but the team could not mount a significant challenge.

Sri Lanka’s first innings was declared at a commanding 602 runs for five wickets, while New Zealand faltered in their first innings, being dismissed for just 88 runs.

This victory not only gives Sri Lanka the series title but also elevates them to third place in the World Test Championship standings. Currently, India leads the table with a win percentage of 71.67%, followed by Australia at 62.50%, and Sri Lanka with 55.56%.

The standings are rounded out by England in fourth, Bangladesh in fifth, and South Africa in sixth. New Zealand sits in seventh, with Pakistan and West Indies in eighth and ninth positions, respectively.

With the final of the Test Championship on the horizon, the competition among the top teams continues to heat up as they aim for a chance to compete for the prestigious title.
