The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is contemplating an extension of the income tax return filing deadline, with discussions set to take place after Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif returns to the country. The current deadline is September 30, and concerns have arisen regarding the heavy load on the filing system.
As of September 28, approximately 2.9 million tax returns have already been submitted. However, the increased traffic on the system has raised alarms, prompting FBR officials to suggest a possible delay in the deadline to accommodate taxpayers.
Sources indicate that the Prime Minister will receive a recommendation from the FBR regarding this extension. Should it be approved, it would grant additional time for taxpayers who have faced challenges in completing their filings. This decision comes as a welcome relief for many individuals and businesses struggling with the online filing process.
