North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has escalated threats against South Korea, declaring that he would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons to obliterate the nation if provoked. This alarming rhetoric emerged after South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol warned that the Kim regime would face collapse if it attempted to deploy nuclear arms.
The exchange of hostile statements is part of a long-standing rivalry between the two Koreas but comes at a particularly tense time following North Korea’s recent revelations about a new nuclear facility and ongoing missile tests. Analysts anticipate that North Korea’s rubber-stamp parliament will soon constitutionally declare a “two-state” system, formally rejecting any reconciliation with South Korea and establishing new national borders.
During a visit to a special operations forces unit, Kim emphasized his military’s readiness to employ all offensive capabilities, including nuclear weapons, should South Korea encroach on North Korean sovereignty. His remarks reflect the increasing volatility on the Korean Peninsula and the potential for further escalation in the ongoing conflict.
