Russian Court Sentences American Citizen for Fighting in Ukraine

A Russian court has handed down a prison sentence of 6 years and 10 months to American citizen Stephen Hubbard, aged 72, for participating as a mercenary in the Ukraine conflict. Russian state media reported that Hubbard was found guilty of fighting against Russian forces in exchange for financial compensation.

Hubbard, who allegedly received a monthly payment of $1,000, admitted to the charges last month. Prosecutors accused him of engaging in combat operations against Russia. He was captured by Russian forces in April 2022 and has been in custody since then.
