Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was laid to rest on Sunday night with state honors, drawing a large crowd that included political leaders and citizens, all gathered under tight security measures.
The ceremony took place at Bada Kabrastan in the Marine Lines area, where the Mumbai Police provided a guard of honor to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader amidst a rainy backdrop. The funeral procession commenced from Siddique’s residence, Maqba Heights in Bandra, after the Namaaz-e-Janaza was performed. His body, draped in the national flag, was transported in an ambulance along the sea link, covering a distance of 17 kilometers.
Siddique, a prominent Muslim figure known for his connections in Bollywood, was tragically shot dead on Saturday night, reportedly by three assailants. In response, the Crime Branch has apprehended two alleged shooters, originally from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, as well as a co-conspirator from Pune. Investigative teams are working diligently to uncover the full details of the murder plot.
The funeral service was attended by senior police officials, politicians from various parties, and a multitude of supporters, all coming together to honor the memory of the 66-year-old former MLA.
