Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari has strongly condemned the misuse of social media that aims to tarnish the lives of innocent girls. In a recent media interaction outside the Lahore High Court, she highlighted alarming incidents where images of three girls were circulated under the name of one girl, asserting that the “Bangladesh model” would not be permitted in Pakistan.
Bukhari expressed her intent to adopt a more assertive approach, stating, “From now on, there will be no leniency or special treatment. I must embody a ministerial demeanor.” Responding to a journalist’s inquiry about what this demeanor entails, she clarified, “It’s the attitude I have been trained to uphold in my role.”
The Minister emphasized the necessity of accountability, promising action against journalists or YouTubers who disseminate false information, particularly those who inappropriately use the name of Maryam Nawaz. “If anyone possesses evidence, they should bring it forth, and we will support them,” she declared.
Bukhari voiced concerns over organized efforts to disrupt law and order in Punjab, asserting, “No one is permitted to disturb peace or incite rebellion. Those making allegations must provide evidence.” She expressed sympathy for parents anxiously waiting outside police stations for their children, reminiscent of the unrest witnessed on May 9.
The Information Minister called for collective responsibility from parents, educators, and the media, urging them to address these pressing issues. “Protesters appear to be seeking laptops and other items rather than genuine grievances,” she observed.
Emphasizing the importance of every child’s safety, Bukhari remarked, “No girl should be regarded as expendable, particularly in Punjab.” She reiterated that attempts to disrupt law and order through social media would not be tolerated, firmly stating that any calls for rebellion would face resolute opposition.
In conclusion, Bukhari condemned the exploitation of children for political gain and reiterated the collective duty to ensure the protection and future of the youth in the country.
