Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is celebrating its 77th Foundation Day with immense zeal and a renewed commitment to its ideals. The festivities commenced with special prayers for the safety of Pakistan and Kashmir, along with remembrances for the martyrs of Kashmir.
A ceremonial 21-gun salute was rendered by the Pakistan Army, and participants raised slogans in support of both Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. This day, historically significant, marks the resistance of Kashmiri Muslims against the oppressive Dogra regime on October 24, 1947, when they succeeded in liberating part of Jammu and Kashmir.
The region has a rich history, with a Muslim majority that faced annexation attempts by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1947. In response to this occupation, Kashmiris launched their freedom movement, which led to the establishment of their government in Muzaffarabad on this day, a pivotal moment in their quest for self-determination.
The leadership of Sardar Ibrahim Khan during this tumultuous period was instrumental in forming an independent government, representing a significant step toward liberation and autonomy for the Kashmiri people. Each year, the Foundation Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made during the historic struggle for freedom, reflecting the aspirations and resilience of the Kashmiri population.
The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir continues to uphold this legacy, commemorating the bravery and commitment of its people in their ongoing pursuit of justice and self-governance.
