FBR Amends Income Tax Rules, Active Taxpayers List to be Updated Daily

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has rolled out key changes to the Income Tax Rules 2002, aimed at streamlining tax compliance. Under the new amendments, the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) will now be updated daily, ensuring more accurate and timely records.

The amendments, enacted on October 18 through an SRO under Section 237 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, will bring a shift in how taxpayers are listed. According to FBR, only those who submit their tax returns within the designated timeframe will automatically appear on the ATL.

For late filers, the changes come with a catch — they will now need to pay a surcharge to be added to the list. FBR emphasized that these adjustments are intended to promote timely compliance and improve the efficiency of tax collection across the country.
