Lebanon’s Hezbollah has named 60-year-old Sheikh Naim Qassem as its new leader following the martyrdom of former chief Hassan Nasrallah. Reports indicate that the Iranian-aligned group reached the decision after the recent loss of two senior leaders in Israeli attacks over the last month.
According to Iran’s state broadcaster, Hezbollah’s Shura Council confirmed Qassem’s appointment on Tuesday. Previously serving as deputy secretary-general, Sheikh Qassem now steps into the top role, filling the position left by Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in September. The transition comes as Hezbollah faces increased regional tensions and maintains its stronghold in Lebanon’s political landscape.
