
Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Plans Diplomatic Outreach to Combat Smog Crisis

Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has signaled her intention to write to the Chief Minister of Indian Punjab regarding the urgent issue of smog, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to address the environmental challenge. During a Diwali celebration at Lahore’s 90 Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, she stated, “The smog problem is not just political; it’s a humanitarian concern. We cannot combat it unless both Punjabs take joint action.”
The festive event, hosted by Maryam Nawaz, celebrated the Hindu festival with traditional decorations, including illuminated diyas and colorful rangoli designs. As part of the occasion, she distributed checks worth Rs. 15,000 to 1,400 Hindu families, demonstrating her commitment to supporting minority communities.
Dignitaries from various countries, including the U.S. and U.K., attended the celebration, which showcased cultural diversity. Maryam Nawaz engaged warmly with attendees, even choosing to sit among the Hindu women and sharing cake with them.
In her address, she also announced initiatives aimed at enhancing support for minority communities, including the introduction of special community cards and the establishment of a virtual police station to address their concerns. Furthermore, she reiterated the importance of international cooperation in tackling environmental issues, underscoring that effective diplomacy with India is essential for addressing the smog crisis.
