
PM Shahbaz Sharif Announces 100 MW Power Supply and Rs1 Billion Fund for Gilgit Baltistan Students

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced a major uplift package, including an immediate 100 MW power supply boost and a Rs1 billion endowment fund for students at Baltistan University and Karakorum University. Chairing a special GB cabinet meeting, the prime minister emphasized his commitment to development initiatives aimed at enhancing education, infrastructure, and economic stability in the region.
Prime Minister Shahbaz During a high-profile visit to Gilgit Baltistan (GB) on Wednesday, also lauded the completion of Bubar Model Village, a housing project for flood-affected families, and directed GB’s administration to expand educational, recreational, and power facilities in Ghizer district. Additionally, he announced plans to establish Daanish Schools in GB, modeled after the successful institutions in Punjab.
Highlighting Pakistan’s recent economic strides, Shahbaz noted record stock market growth, increased remittances, and a decline in inflation, marking positive signs for the nation. He applauded the collective contributions from all provinces, AJK, and GB, while reaffirming the federal government’s focus on regional development, especially in under-resourced areas like GB, KP’s merged districts, and Balochistan.
Shahbaz further disclosed Qatar’s interest in tourism investment for GB, a step that could boost the region’s economic potential. The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Amir Muqam, and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, alongside GB cabinet members and senior officials.
