NADRA Hosts World Bank Delegation to Bolster Digital Initiatives

A high-profile delegation from the World Bank, headed by Ms. Vyjayanti T. Desai, Practice Manager for Digital Development in the South Asia Region, visited the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Headquarters on Thursday. The focus of the visit was to evaluate Pakistan’s progress in digital transformation, with an emphasis on digital identity and economic growth as part of Pakistan’s drive towards a more inclusive digital society.

Chairman NADRA provided an in-depth briefing on the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), a key World Bank-supported initiative. DEEP aims to reinforce Pakistan’s economic infrastructure through comprehensive digitization efforts, including the establishment of digital identity systems across the country. This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) strategy, which seeks to bolster sustainable development and improve access to vital services such as health, education, and financial resources.

The World Bank team, which included senior officials from both the U.S. and Pakistan, assessed NADRA’s strategic approach in defining the information mechanisms essential for DEEP’s success. These discussions centered on ensuring a smooth deployment of digital identity solutions nationwide.

Ms. Desai expressed the World Bank’s commitment to partnering with NADRA, highlighting that a well-executed digital identity framework can catalyze economic growth, increase government transparency, and promote societal inclusion within Pakistan’s evolving digital landscape.

This partnership reflects NADRA and the World Bank’s mutual objective of creating a robust digital infrastructure that positions Pakistan as a leader in the region’s digital economy, empowering its citizens and setting a benchmark for South Asia.
