KABUL – Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have signed a preferential trade agreement during the 4th Tashkent International Investment Forum, signaling a major step forward in regional economic cooperation. The agreement, accompanied by a Joint Action Plan, was finalized during a meeting between Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov.
The newly signed preferential trade agreement is designed to reduce tariffs and eliminate existing trade barriers. This move is expected to ease access to each other’s markets and foster a smoother flow of goods and services. Officials from both nations highlighted the deal’s potential to create new opportunities for exporters, investors, and the private sector.
According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Joint Action Plan lays out a roadmap for closer economic ties and private sector collaboration. It includes strategies to support sustainable trade development, strengthen institutional cooperation, and facilitate mutual investments.
Both Azizi and Kudratov emphasized their shared commitment to long-term economic collaboration. They underscored the importance of building practical platforms for trade and investment, aimed at driving mutual prosperity and regional stability. Their discussion also included mechanisms for enhancing customs cooperation and industrial partnerships.
The agreement marks a strategic milestone in Central Asia’s efforts to deepen economic integration. It not only strengthens Afghan-Uzbek ties but also contributes to broader regional goals of economic connectivity, trade diversification, and inclusive growth.
