In a commanding display on Friday night, Al-Ittihad of Jeddah clinched a decisive 4-1 victory against Al-Khaleej, elevating themselves to the top of the Saudi Pro League standings with 12 points.
The match kicked off at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, where Al-Khaleej shocked the audience with an early goal from Khaled Nareh just five minutes in, giving them a surprising lead.
However, Al-Ittihad quickly regrouped and turned the tide in the second half. Star striker Karim Benzema leveled the score in the 49th minute. Following this, the team surged ahead, with Hossem Aouar and Steven Bergwijn netting two more goals in quick succession during the 56th and 68th minutes, respectively.
As the match drew to a close, Hamad Al-Ghamdi added another goal during the fifth minute of stoppage time, sealing the match at 4-1.
This impressive performance echoes Al-Ittihad’s previous encounter against Al-Wehda on September 15, where they delivered a stunning 7-1 victory, further solidifying their formidable prowess.
With five matches completed, Al-Ittihad now holds the top position in the league table. However, their lead could be challenged if Al-Hilal manages at least a draw in their upcoming fixture against Al-Khaloud.
In another notable result, Cristiano Ronaldo led Al-Nassr to their second consecutive victory of the season, triumphing 2-0 over Al-Wehda in Riyadh.
