Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch Assumes Role as Pakistan’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO
Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch has officially taken up her duties as Pakistan’s Permanent Delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after presenting her Letter of Credentials to Director-General Audrey Azoulay at the organization’s headquarters in Paris.
Following the formal ceremony, Ambassador Baloch engaged in discussions with the Director-General and senior UNESCO officials, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening collaboration in education, science, and cultural preservation. She highlighted Pakistan’s active role in UNESCO initiatives and reaffirmed the country’s support for advancing the organization’s global mandate.
As Vice-Chair of UNESCO’s Executive Board, Ambassador Baloch pledged to work towards expanding partnerships and fostering international cooperation. Director-General Azoulay, in turn, lauded Pakistan’s contributions and expressed appreciation for the country’s continued engagement in UNESCO’s programs. Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing joint efforts, particularly in safeguarding cultural heritage and promoting inclusive education and scientific innovation.
A distinguished diplomat with a career spanning three decades, Ambassador Baloch has held key assignments in Washington, Beijing, and Geneva, representing Pakistan at the United Nations. She previously served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to South Korea and as the Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson, playing a crucial role in shaping the country’s foreign policy narrative.
