Apex Committee Approves Coordinated Counter-Terrorism Operation in Baluchistan

The Apex Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP) has given approval for a coordinated counter-terrorism operation in Baluchistan. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which also discussed the internal and external security situation of the country.

The meeting was attended by key figures including Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, DG ISI, provincial chief ministers, and federal ministers. The committee focused on renewing the national counter-terrorism strategy, reviewing the current security situation, and discussing how to address emerging threats.

A major highlight of the meeting was the approval for the establishment of district-level coordination committees under provincial apex committees, particularly to oversee the planned counter-terrorism operation in Baluchistan. This operation aims to target and dismantle terror networks and extremists operating in the region.

The committee also underscored the need for enhanced cooperation between provincial and federal governments to combat terrorism effectively. In addition, it emphasized the importance of a unified national approach in countering extremism, illegal activities, and misinformation campaigns. The committee agreed that a multi-faceted effort, involving all stakeholders, is necessary to overcome these challenges.

Prime Minister Sharif reiterated that the government’s counter-terrorism measures must be implemented without political bias. Meanwhile, General Munir reaffirmed the military’s commitment to tackling security threats and ensuring stability across the country. The meeting also discussed the restoration of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and the establishment of intelligence fusion and threat assessment centers at both national and provincial levels to better coordinate efforts.
