Apple to Shift US iPhone Assembly to India Amid Rising US-China Trade Tensions
Report By Safarti Tarjuman Business Desk
In a major shift for its global supply chain, Apple is preparing to move the assembly of all iPhones sold in the United States to India by next year, significantly reducing its reliance on Chinese manufacturing.
According to a report by the Financial Times, the tech giant’s decision comes amid escalating trade and tariff disputes between Washington and Beijing. Apple, which currently assembles most of its iPhones in China, is aiming to mitigate risks linked to geopolitical uncertainty.
The move could see over 60 million iPhones destined for the US market assembled in India annually, starting as early as 2026. To achieve this, the company would need to double its current production capacity in India, the report stated.
In recent years, Apple has invested heavily in China’s advanced manufacturing infrastructure. However, with mounting political and economic pressures, the company has intensified efforts to diversify its operations.
This strategic transition marks a significant step in Apple’s long-term goal to restructure its supply chain and reduce overdependence on a single region.
